HPCustom
Mike and Percussion Center Staff,

I just want to express my appreciation for the beautiful job on the new drums for my HP Custom kit. I've been a customer of HP Drums since 2005 and have been extremely pleased with the sound and performance of the drums. In addition, whenever I need to add a drum or make specification changes, Mike is right there willing to work with me so I get EXACTLY what I want at a reasonable price. I love the new 10inch depth cut on the floor toms and the new voice provided by the addition of the 8inch tom. I can configure the kit for several genres of music from Classic Rock to Progressive Jazz. The kit fits like a glove and it's all because of your commitment to your customers. Thank you again for working so hard to please me - I'll definitely be an HP Custom drummer for life!!! Kudos' Mike to you and your staff. -- Sincerely, Phil Hronas

Best Regards,
Phil Hronas

Testimonials

Mike, Donna and Ernest,

Congratulations to each of you, and to the entire staff, for an outstanding Student Showcase.  I enjoyed the wide of variety musical styles and was really impressed by the accomplishment of many of the musicians.   Not to mention the sheer number of students in the program!   A lot of hard work and dedication on everyone's part.
As for Stewart, he was pretty darn nervous going into it (in fact, I've never seen him like that before), and was drained afterward, but I think he felt pretty good about his effort.  This was a good experience for Stewart and I think will help he and Partrick focus on some things will make him a better drummer in the future.
Thanks again for a good show, and we'll see you around.

Hi Mike and all at The Percussion Center,
I have attached a few pics of my new HP Custom drumset taken at a couple of different gigs we played recently. I can't say enough how much I love this kit and I can't wait til the next gig to play them again.  They are FANTASTIC!   - Tommy Howser

I just wanted to say thanks again for your guys work on our drums.  They look great and I appreciate the service you guys provide.
                                      -  Ross Boothman, Lumberton High School

Thursday night my band, Hailstone and the Electric Company, had a gig with 4 other bands at Strut's Live (formerly Cardi's 2000). I used my HPs and they sounded, to quote every drummer that night, "unbelievable" and, "perfect". I was told by other bands that I was the only drummer who's drums actually sounded like a real set. And they were comparing it to Pearl, Gretsch, and Mapex sets! In fact, when the sound guy heard my set during our sound check he smiled wide and said into the PA, "Alright! We're finally gonna hear some real rock 'n' roll!"

Their power was just incredible. The kick sent shockwaves through the club, and the toms delivered the sound I've loved since I got my set. The band played a great show, and I know that if my drums sounded any other way we wouldn't have performed at the level we did, or had the same amount of energy rocking the stage. I want to thank you for building me a set with the exact look I wanted and the incredible sound that I've always dreamed of. I'd love for you to come out to our next show on August 20 at Wired Cafe on Barker Cypress (http://www.javamecrazy.com/) and hear these incredible drums for yourself.

My set is the one that everyone turns to stare at when it's brought into the venue and the one that everyone takes a few minutes to really listen to when it's on stage. I have yet to come across a set that comes close to it's sound and all around quality.

Many, many thanks,
Zach Keener

I want to tell you how TOTALLY pleased and satisfied I am with my new HP Custom drum set.

First let me say that this is truly a quality built kit from the shell materials, to the hardware, to the finishing; which I might add is extremely beautiful. I’ve received several compliments on the color choices and the overall appearance of the drum set blows everyone away.

Second, these drums sound AWESOME!!  In fact, I didn’t have to adjust one single thing other than the height of the floor toms. It’s been my past experience with “commercial” kits of having to muffle the bass drum, tape the bottom heads to reduce ring, and tighten or loosen the snares to get just the sound that I’m looking for. Not so with the HP Customs. They were perfect from the moment I set them up and started playing. The snare is crisp and clean, the bass drum is deep and powerful,  and the toms have a warm well balanced tone.

Thirdly, the hardware is solid and heavy duty. It’s easy to adjust and I like the set-it-and-forget-it floor tom legs (I’ve never seen that before). This really reduces set-up time and ensures that my drums are positioned just as I want them every time.

Finally, I appreciate the care and personal touch given me by the staff at HP Custom (Mike Henry in particular). I was able to pick out everything on my kit (including Percussion Center cases to protect my investment) and HP was right there to offer suggestions and guide me during the selection process to ensure that I designed the drum set of my dreams. I was kept up-to-date on the progress of my drums,  consulted when there were questions about my choices, and to top it off the drums were completed ahead of schedule just in time for my birthday. What a GREAT gift!!  I still have to go into the music room when I’m not playing and look at them just to make sure they’re mine. Pinch me – quick!!

Again, thanks so much for everything, these drums are “Da-Bomb”. Kudos’ to Mike Henry, Ernest Potts and the rest of the Percussion Center Staff in making my custom drum purchase an enjoyable, hassle-free experience. Compared to other custom builders I’ve researched, HP offers the Greatest all-around value for the dollar.

Sincerely,
Phil Hronas

I am now home back in Scotland and the bell I bought from you guys is awesome.  Just one problem, I use it too much! Anyhow, you guys are runing a great store down in Houston and I'll definately be popping in for a wee visit next time I go out to America.  Hope all is well and keeps going well.     - Andrew from Scotland

Thanks again for taking so much time and showing so much interest in making sure that I got EXACTLY what I wanted and needed.  I really do appreciate all of your help.  Thanks a bunch!  Please let me know when the new stickers and t-shirts come in.  I want to show everyone where I go to keep my beat groovin'.  You are by far the best drum store in all of H-town! Thanks.                       - Shawn Lee Morris, Bucko Ruckus

I want all of you drummers out there to know what a fantastic experience it has been working with the staff at HPC!!  I simply do not have enough space to give full credit that is "well deserved" of the individuals who have made it possible for me to obtain my "dream" drum-set!  After extensive research and design, I presented Mike Henry and his team of experts, a project that I had been working on for nearly over a year, with the help of some very well known rock drummers nationwide, my "rough sketch" of my soon to be monster drumset. Simply stated, Mike and his team of experts "made it a reality!".  If you or anyone you know, needs anything from expert advise to professional equipment, rest assured that the staff at HPC will do anything in thier power to make it happen!  I look forward to doing business in the years to come with Mike Henry and his team of experts!!  God Bless!                                                                                  - Ludwig Dave

The carbon fiber snare sounds awesome! It complements my Birch kit really well. The rim shots POP like a gunshot and cross sticks on the rim are really crisp and clear. Definitely a unique sound compared to maple or brass.  It cuts through even better than my 20 ply maple with a clean sound that sounds "deeper" than I would expect for a 6" depth. I like it a lot.  - Russell Callendar

Mike, I absolutely love the drum! It cust and cracks incredibly.  But the best part is that the ring has no nasty side effects.  It is a pure tone.  It also is sturdy - it stays in tune - no fiddling with a drum key between songs when there is no time to do that anyway.  It also cuts across styles.  I use my favorite rim shot most of the time, then shift to a standard stick near the center of the head and it is still beautiful.  I was a little concerned that the drum is tuned slightly tighter than I am used to, but the crack and ring are just incredible with the full band going.  I can also fly away a little easier with double stroke rolls and the like too!
                                                                                                            - Ron

Thanks for organizing the Stanton Moore master class.  It was a great format and Stanton's knowledge of and respect for the roots of the New Orleans sound were impressive.  I would gladly pay the same admission price for other clinics of comparable quality.                                                                                                 - Harvey

The bearing edge you did on my Tama drums made an incredible difference.  The sound is true across all drums.  What really surprised me was the difference it made in the bass.  WOW. . . it has punch like you wouldn't believe . . . and a ton of low end sound.  It's almost like having a new set.  I appreciate your help, your quality of work and your quick turnaround.                                                                                          - Mark Keener

I love HPCustom carbon fiber.  Carbon Fiber gives me a really big and warm sound.  It's hard to find drums that deliver both projection and warmth.  These drums deliver. They deliver a sound much bigger than their size.  Carbon Fiber also will not break your back.  It's extremely light.  For the working drummer these are the Bomb!!!!  They are less than half the weight of a wood kit.  Carbon Fiber gives me peace of mind for four reasons.
1) The shells are almost indestructible.
2) They are impervious to temperature changes and humidity changes.
3)  The color is part of the shell, so the finish is extremely durable.
4)  THESE DRUMS SOUND KILLER, night after night after night.

Thank-you guys for doing such a great job with my bearing edges and for your fantastic service. It's really made a great difference with recording.          - Kevin Radomski

My friend and I stopped by the Percussion Center during our trip to Houston in the recent weeks. We both were impressed with the sheer quality and craftsmanship that was evident in the HP Custom Drums and the professionalism that Mr. Potts exhibited. Further more, I am interested in getting my name on your mailing list. Again, I thank you for your professionalism and hospitality.          - Chris Mashburn

I started my percussion shopping at the Percussion Center, got a comprehensive estimate on my dream set, and decided to keep looking just to make sure I was getting the best set. Two days later I was back at the Percussion Center, confident, because I was able to clearly see that the HP Custom set was the best looking, and best sounding set I could find in the whole city. A few weeks later I was there to pick up my set and they where absolutely beautiful! I rushed home and set them up and without the slightest turn of a lug I began to play them. This is the first set of drums I have ever had and or ever seen that did not need mounds of tape or rings stuck all over them to get the right sound. Without a doubt the Percussion Center offers the best percussion experience I have ever had.          - Mike Stark

Percussion Center has it all! Great staff & selection. They have what you need. I enjoy the personal service. I have often asked their recommendations on products & have never been disappointed - they really know their stuff and they won't try to sell you any junk just so they can make a sale & move on to the next customer. If you want lessons, the teachers are first rate also. It's the only place to shop.          - Bruce K. Jamison

The Percussion Center has really outdone itself! The new store is very, very nice! And the location is the best. Besides having the largest selection of specialty items, they have great service and now a convenient location.          - Dana Ritchhart

Your new store is great. I'd like to take a second to say thanks, for offering the finest teachers around and for offering solid advice without regard of a pending sale. Thanks Mike and to all the staff at the Percussion Center.          - Stu Legge

When I moved to Houston in 1997 to start SixMileBridge, I needed to purchase a new drum kit. Mike and the rest of the guys at the Houston Percussion Center helped me find just what I needed...a 5-piece Premier XPK in honey amber.

Over the years, they've put up with my odd requirements in drums, hand percussion, hardware, and assorted supplies. If they don't have it, they can get it...quickly!

Whether live or in the studio, these guys help me sound my best...whether it's playing djembe with Jiggernaut (www.jiggernaut.com), kit with the Buddhacrush (www.buddhacrush.com), or recoding with a variety of different artists.

AND...they remember who the hell I am when I walk in the door...try getting THAT kind of service at one of those mega-music stores.          - Wolf Loescher

I recently purchased a set of PURPLE STAINED H. P. CUSTOM DRUMS from THE PERCUSSION CENTER. I have played on PEARL, LUDWIG, TAMA, TAYE, DW's, and SLINGERLAND drums. I have never found a better sounding or easier set of drums to play in my life. I want to thank MIKE HENRY for making this purchase a great success.
                                                                                         - Monty Thomason

Hey Mike, Just wanted to let you and the shop crew know that the drums are awesome!!! The sound, the tone, the "RESONANCE", and the quality! I love the toms very much! The kit is just perfect! I examined it further and didn't see any imperfections or anything of that nature. I am very impressed with the overall sound that the kit produces. The kick, Oh the kick! What can I say about it, ROCK ON!!! Thanks again to all the guys at the Percussion Center. make like a STONE & ROCK <*}}}>< PSALM 150v5          - Bryan F Webber

WorldMax Testimonials

Thanks for sending the WorldMax drum.  It's a real beauty! Last night was the first opportunity for me to play it and hear it played.  I worked this jam session hosted by The San Jose Jazz Society that I do a couple times a month.  Good players and usually some good young players sit in, so I got to hear the drum played right.  The drum has extremely good sensitivity.  Wonderful warm depth.  The throw-off locks in nice and has a real smooth action.  Tuning was very easy.  I like the nylon washers! Why don't more drum companies do that?  One of the young drummers who sat in really loved the drum.  He commented that to him it sounded like Billy Higgin's snare.  The rim shot has a beautiful thick tone with nice ring.  Great for N'awlin's grooves.  One of the guys sitting in last night was a bari-sax player from Houston named Aaron Linkton.  He just moved here a couple of months ago and got the gig heading the jazz dept at San Jose State.  He had hired me to play at his faculty recital at the end of this month and requested that I bringthe snare drum.  So even horn players can hear the difference.                              Tim Solook

I just wanted to say how much I love the new WorldMax drums I got last week. I played them Saturday nite for the first time and everyone loved how they looked and sounded. You and the staff were very professional as always and now that you are moving I'll have to stock up on some things during the big sale. I'm attaching a couple pics of the drums on stage..they looked and sounded AWESOME...!!!!    Thanks.       - Greg Lange

Drums have been a part of my life since 1964.  I grew up playing the drums of the great American manufacturers of the 60s and 70s.  I have always favored what are now referred to as vintage drums because of their sound and quality of construction.

I became familiar with WorldMax drums about three years ago.  These are terrific sounding drums at a great price.  The quality of construction is as good as many of the higher-priced popular brands.  The lacquer finishes are beautiful and the metal snare drums are equal in sound and construction to anything I've played.  I'm especially impressed with their hammered brass snare drums with the vintage tube lugs.  A drum that I've played on that sells for more than twice as much didn't sound any better than the WorldMax drum.

WorldMax stands and pedals are also an outstanding value.  They are comparable with much of what is offered by the major brands at competitive prices.  One of my vintage kits needs new stands.  WorldMax's vintage line of stands will maintain the look that I want to keep whil providing me the flexibility and durability I need.  WorldMax products are a great value.                - Dave Ely, HoustonDrumGuy - eBay

The things that attracted to me to the WorldMax drums were the quality of the shells and the vintage style lugs. After getting the drums and playing them I'm very pleased with the wide tuning range and the finish of the drums.  In recording people often comment on the sound of the snare in particular.  Thanks again to the Percussion Center for a great set of drums!                     - Ron Rushing

One of my kits that I use to play jazz gigs on is a small WorldMax jazz maple kit with a 20" kick, a 12" mounted tom, and a little 14" floor tom.  I get nothing but compliments on the sound and tone of these drums.  Thanks Mike! - Troy Nicar

Response to "Hand Drum Jam Session"

It was really fun - even if I am pretty "beat" challenged!  I enjoyed trying - though Mike probably reached a new level of patience....or indulgence.....or amazement maybe!!!  The other folks were really nice and supportive as well.  I know that the kids all had fun, too.

Thanks for all the extra stuff you guys do to make it more than just drum lessons!
LeAnn

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how impressed I was with the Cobham clinic.  I have been to many clinics, seminars and similar events over the years and this one was the best by far!

The room was awesome and Billy really engaged the audience and shared some wonderful insight into playing and performing, as well as providing a masterful display of his prowess behind the kit.  The performance with the 4 shaker-embellished mallets was just about the most creative thing I've seen done on a set of drums.

My hat is off to you and your staff of professionals  - everyone did a great job and it resulted in a fantastic evening for everyone.  Congrats on the new facility and the great start to new and improved Percussion Center.Party on!  - Wendel

Thank you so much for being par of the gallery's Children's Day and for sending Jim Calvert and his wife to be the Percussion Center ambassadors. Their drumset was without a doubt the highlight of the day.  They were both so good with children, which is say a lot, since they were innundated by them!  There was always a line waiting for a turn; I think it's a magical thing for a child to be able to sit down behind a drumset and actually play it.  So did the 100s of children who did just that.  Again many thanks.  - Kim, Rice University
